What extras should I budget for during a yacht charter?

There are a number of things to consider when calculating how much your charter will cost.

Mooring Fees

If you are going to moor in a harbour, a town quay, a mooring buoy, or even in some anchorages, then you will need to pay a fee. In terms of price, it will depend on the location, size, and year of your yacht. To find out an accurate price, have a chat with your charter advisor. Fuel

Fuel

You may be on a sailing yacht, but you still need to motor in and out of port, and charge the batteries. So using diesel in inevitable. As a general rule of thumb, your yacht will come with a full tank, which will simply need to be topped up by the end of your charter, so you only pay for what you use.

Final Clean

Just like with Airbnb, your charter company may want to charge you an end of charter cleaning fee. This is normal.

Food

This is very much a case of how long is a piece of string... Your charter advisor can give you an estimate of how much provisions cost in your destination. However, if you need it, we can provide you with a provisioning service that will ensure your food shopping is on board for when you arrive.

Outboard Engine

The majority of charters will include a tender, but that might be it. Check with your charter broker as you may need to also hire an outboard engine - unless you really like rowing!

Toys

Although some charters do, most don't include SUP, Kayaks, bikes or seascooters. However, have a chat to your charter advisor and they can look at adding them to your booking.

APA

The advance provisioning allowance (APA) is the fee that only applies to crewed yacht charters. You pay APA in advance to cover the cost of provisioning for the duration of your charter. It is a fee that is paid in addition to the charter fee. If you think of the advanced provisioning allowance as a petty cash account for your captain and chef, then it makes sense to think about it as the easiest way to track the yacht charter expenses while at sea.
